How does this program estimate my repair interval?

Each factor that was identified as a “contributor” to the overall condition of boiler safety valves is listed in Chart A on the following page. Based on operational and design knowledge and years of actual repair experience, each factor was assigned a weight. The weights are shown in parenthesis after each operating factor. For example, Operating Gap at Recommended Level has a weight of (2). To quantify and then predict a recommended maintenance interval for any individual boiler safety valve, select the weight of the applicable factor from the drop down menus in Chart A.

Once all applicable factor weights are inserted, the total combined weight will populate automatically. This is your Total Factor Weight. Click on “Estimate Repair Interval” to be redirected to the Repair Timeline Chart. Based on your Total Factor Weight, you will be given an estimate for inspection frequency.

Utilizing this tool allows you to determine a reasonable estimate for repair intervals of boiler safety valves that is based on real life factors that define the National Board’s reference to “determined by operating experience.”

Important Note
Using the process described above will provide you with a recommended service interval, however, it is up to you to assure that your safety valves are properly inspected and repaired.

Without exception, all boiler safety valves and electromatic type valves should have their set points verified by the use of an auxiliary testing device such as the Dresser Consolidated EVT annually.
